Vincent Van Gogh and me

I know they're not sunflowers, but does this photo of mine make you think of something?

Just a little bit?

What about this?

If you like modern art the Vincent Van Gogh Gallery website is worth checking out because it's just so pretty to look through. It also has info on Van Gogh's life and paintings, and you can purchase prints of his famous and lesser-known works.

I like the section with some quotes of his. I love these two; the first because I think it's so true, and the second, well it's true for me too (sans the pipe, and depending on your definition of a 'fling').

"A good picture is equivalent to a good deed."

"To do good work one must eat well, be well housed, have one's fling from time to time, smoke one's pipe, and drink one's coffee in peace."

  1. I love sour sobs. Your vase reminds me of a time Daniel and Sam (now 17 and 15) picked some for me and I put them in a vase. My mother thought I was crazy but I was so touched by their gesture that I had to show them I thought it was special.

Your picture of your broccoli looks great. We haven't actually got as much as we were hoping for from the garden but the stuff we have has been yummy. The children have even eaten some raw.

I hope yours is as nice.

  2. I didn't know they were called sour sobs, thanks for that.

I'm a bit obsessed about the broccoli. Do you use any pesticide on yours? I'd like to avoid using any if I can.

  3. I don't think that is the actual scientific name for them but if you suck the green tube, it has some sour juice in it. We use to do it as kids and my mother would freak out but we never got sick from it.

We don't use any pesticides that I know of. I do give all our plants a wash before cutting them and cooking. We have had a couple of little creepy crawlies but they all come off with water.
